Palaiochora is a small town by the sea at the southwest of Chania. Built in a small peninsula, it is surrounded by beautiful beaches where you can enjoy the sea and sun. The climate in Palaiochora is very warm from early May until late October.

09:00 Ano Vouves – Ancient Olive Tree

We will make a small stop at Ano Vouves, at the ancient olive tree on our way to Palaiochora. This is the oldest recorded olive tree in the world, proclaimed as a natural monument. Its age is estimated between 3000 and 5000 years and still remains alive. Next to the monumental tree, visitors can learn about the olive cultivation at the Olive Tree Museum of Vouves.

10:00 Kandanos

A small break at the historic Kandanos, just 16km from our final destination where you can walk around the village and visit the churches of St. Anna and St. George built in the Byzantine period. The village was burnt down by the Germans during the Second World War and built from scratch after the war. The Germans placed an inscription at the central square of the village that says “Here there was Kandanos. Destroyed in reprisal killing of 25 Germans” which remains as a monument.

10:45 Palaiochora

Palaiochora is a popular destination during the summer that offers to the visitors crystal clear waters, well organised beaches, and beautiful isolated small anchorages. It can be very busy in the high season however there are a lot of quiet places for relaxation for those who prefer it. Gialiskari is a beach just outside Palaiochora that you can enjoy your swim. The small town has a variety of restaurants and cafes and in the evening you can enjoy a walk, food, coffee or wine by the sea front or at the central streets that remain closed to vehicles in the night, transformed into pedestrian streets.
